Design: Michael Graves

The iconic “9093” kettle, with its bird-shaped whistle, is one of the most sought-after Alessi items in the world. Its form, designed by Michael Graves in 1985, blends influences from European art, American pop, and pre-Columbian cultures. Graves’ unique visual language has made the kettle unwaveringly popular since its release. A truly useful, yet elegant and playful object: when the water starts to boil, the bird sings, leading to an inevitable smile. It is included in the collections of many museums, including MoMA in New York and the V&A in London, as a classic of postmodern design.
